Why Jamaica Is the Nearshore Answer

Native English, one hour or less from US Eastern time all year, an established industry of roughly 40,000 to 50,000 BPO workers, and costs 30 to 45% below the US. Here are the facts, with the trade-offs included.

Six Reasons, With Sources

English is the official language

Agents are native English speakers educated in English. Your customers hear a clear, neutral accent, and written support reads like it came from your own office.

Within one hour of US Eastern, all year

Jamaica keeps one time zone all year with no daylight saving, so our teams run on US Eastern time in winter and US Central time in summer, never more than one hour from the East Coast. No 12-hour hand-offs, no overnight-only teams unless you want them.

An established industry

Jamaica's BPO sector employs roughly 40,000 to 50,000 people across about 70 companies, including several global operators. That means trained talent, experienced managers and training institutions such as HEART/NSTA Trust feeding the pipeline.

Cost that stays low

Published benchmarks put Jamaica at $10 to $18 per agent hour against $28 to $42 for US outsourcing. The savings are structural, not a promotional rate.

US cultural alignment

Shared media, sports, holidays and consumer brands. Agents understand your customers' references without a glossary, which shortens training and reduces escalations.

Government support

Jamaica's Special Economic Zone regime and investment agency actively back the sector, and the industry has an active trade association, the Global Services Association of Jamaica.

What Honest Vendors Tell You

Weather. Jamaica sits in the hurricane belt. The 2025 storm damaged a large share of the island's BPO facilities, and the sector was back to most of its capacity within about a month. We plan for this with multi-site redundancy, generator power and storm procedures, and we show clients the continuity plan before launch rather than hoping the question does not come up.

Cost versus far-offshore. The Philippines and India are cheaper per hour. If a 12-hour time difference and accent trade-offs are acceptable for your customers, they may be the right answer. For voice-heavy, US-facing programs, most clients find Jamaica's total cost lower once quality and churn are counted.

Scale. Jamaica is a mid-sized market. Programs of several thousand seats belong with the global operators. Programs of 5 to a few hundred seats are where a dedicated nearshore partner outperforms them.
