What It Costs to Outsource Customer Service in 2026

Every outsourcing quote looks different, and most buyers end up comparing an hourly rate from one vendor with a per-seat price from another. This guide puts the 2026 market numbers side by side and explains what to look for underneath them.

The benchmarks

OptionCost per agent hourPer agent per month
US in-house, fully loaded$28 to $38roughly $4,800 to $6,500
US outsourced$28 to $42$3,500 to $7,000
Latin America nearshore$12 to $19$2,000 to $4,500
Jamaica nearshore$10 to $18varies by program
Philippines and India$7 to $16$1,200 to $2,500

Sources are the US Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data for customer service representatives, which puts the median base wage near $19 per hour, and 2026 outsourced call center pricing guides. Fully loaded in-house cost adds benefits, management, facilities, tools and the cost of replacing agents, which at typical 40%-plus attrition is substantial.

What a quote should include

The hidden costs

Setup. Published guides put implementation fees anywhere from a few thousand dollars to $50,000 depending on complexity. Insist on seeing it itemized.

Your time. Transition takes management attention for the first two or three months. Budget it.

Quality. The cheapest hourly rate often produces the most repeat contacts, the lowest CSAT and the highest churn. Compare total cost per resolved contact, not per hour.

How to compare quotes

Normalize everything to annual cost per dedicated agent, fully loaded, for the same hours of coverage. Then add setup and your transition time for year one. Finally, weigh the things the spreadsheet cannot see: accent and time zone for voice programs, compliance evidence for regulated work, and whether you will have visibility into quality.
